Brian,
Having just returned from a week at music camp near Seattle, I am surprised that
you do not mention Morley Calvert to even start with.
He wrote quite a bit of music for Brass Bands, and it has definite Canadian
Themes. You should also speak with your father and see if you can get your hands
on the Songs of Newfoundland by Norman Bearcroft. It was a piece published by
the Salvation  Army, but as you know that music is available for the common
public now through the S A Trade Department or Supplies and Purchasing I believe
their current handle is.
