Cold sores are caused by herpes simplex virus, which is not a bacteria, and which cannot be killed directly. Acyclovir is designed to target infected cells directly, and it certainly works for me. Like other people have said, the sooner you use the cream, the better. Acyclovir is available in the UK as Zovirax, over the counter. Daniel Sheard Trombone, Northop Band --
