I would guess that without the repeats, some of the tunes at the back of the
book wouldn't fit on a single march card size sheet, and thus would be nigh on
impossible to play on a lyre in the freezing cold - whereas if the band can
work out the repeats (and lets be glad there won't be any percussionists with
us to disrupt things ;-)) it provides a welcome alternative to 14 repetitions
of Silent Night!
