National Championships

There's been very little comment about the results.  I guess there was
not too much disagreement about the placings - I certainly picked the
top three bands although not in the final order.

What did people think of the test piece?

It's a shame that a small percentage of the audience decided to applaud
Black Dyke as they came on stage and again when the conductor took his
place - this was despite a very clear directive from the stage to
refrain from doing so.

It was interesting, I thought, to see the different methods that bands
used to present the initial section of the music whilst the three
separate musical figures were being played.  I wonder if the judges were
even aware of the various formations and whether is made a difference to
the final result.  I can't actually recall the formations of the top
three.
