Makes those of us feel old who remember, it's the 50th
anniversary of Dennis Brain's untimely death in a road
accident.  Lots on radio (3), and for those curious
about this wonderful instrument and near Nottingham
there is a Great Play-In for Horn players and others
interested are welcome at Nottingham University
(that's the old one at Jesse Boot's Campus near
Beeston, not Trent).  Supposed to be "all day" today,
the concert below concludes.

Tom Robinson presents the series in which leading
musicians of today reflect upon the iconic reputations
of past performers.
For a horn player like Michael Thompson, there can
really be only one icon, Dennis Brain. As soloist,
chamber musician, orchestral section leader and
composer's muse, Brain changed expectations of the
instrument and all this within a life cut short by a
car crash in 1957.

Brain's iconic reputation is revealed through
recordings of Mozart, Britten, Hindemith and Marin
Marais."
