Photocopies
It all depends where you are from. Each country has it's own copyright law. The topic of copyright is a real quagmire but I can let you know some generalities as it pertains to Canadian Law. Please bear in mind that I am not a lawyer, nor am I an expert in this matter. What I am writing points to th...

THANKS
Thank you Nigel,
I have found your treatise on composing/arranging for Brass Band (resident on this site) very helpful as I wander down this exciting path. As I mentioned, I come from a Military Band background and am finding Brass Band music very challenging and rewarding.
Once again thank you.

HISTORY OF BRASS BAND INSTRUMENTATION
Good Day, I am interested in finding out why there are, in a traditional instrumentation, 4 or 5 solo cornet players and only 1 or 2 second and third cornet players. I come from a concert (military) band background and am having difficulty in arranging a piece for a brass band. Most of the solo part...

I will play tenor horn in that one too until our numbers...
EMBOUCHURE CHANGE
I wanted to tell you a story about one of my trombone players who, at 76 years of age was told that he had a "Bad" embouchure. I should back up and tell you that during the war years, he played trombone in Glenn Miller's band. Even at 75 his chops were better than mine ever will be. At any...

Breathing Tools
One of the things that I use is a 5 Litre bag (respirator bag) from a medical supply store. I fashioned a tube to enter the bag that will fit my mouthpiece. I start with just trying to blow up the bag without the mouthpiece. Then after a few months I placed the mouthpiece in the rig and tried again....

I Can Relate
I have been playing sop for about 2 months. I have been struggling with producing a warm sound (cornet sound). I am a trumpet player in Canada and everything I play on the Sop sounds "trumpety". Having been a cornet player as long as you have... do you have any advice on how to warm up my ...
