If playing with the 1st section band can replace your work, friends and family without too much bother, then stick with it. Of course, if you're going to get fired, beaten up and ex-communicated, maybe 4th section is the place to be.

Good luck!

What about 'Journey into Freedom' by Eric Ball? It's a classic. I also loved the arrangement of de Falla's 'Three-Cornered Hat', but I can't remember who did it. Both of them will knock the stuffing out of the audience. There'll be purple rinses everywhere :-).

True, I probably have but I only like it for it's looks Dagnammit, how does it play? What does it sound like? Does it complement your playing style? Is it worth the massive amount of cash it's going to cost, or will it have the inherent sound of a farting gnat? What's more important, a nice shiny t...

My sovereign cornet is nearly as old as I am (33), and apart from cosmetic stuff, it's in great nick.

Any tips for a double/triple tonging failure?
Unfortunately it's just practice practice practice. Got an Arban Tutor? Loads of exercises in there.

Just wrap the rest of your house / family in a tarpaulin first  .

I haven't had to do it in years, but in the old days you used to be able to buy valve refurbishing kits, they had felts, springs and all sorts in 'em.

Sorry, my mistake - it does go into valve three. I'm just being dim. That 'slide' on the bend you are referring to looks like it could move, but I have never ever used it (it doesn't move on my cornet, though that may be because it's over 20 yrs old). I've never used it, and don't know anyone...

Well, presuming it's the same as any other cornet, it should have 4 movable slides. 1. goes from the mouthpiece into valve 1 (the main tuning slide). 2. goes in and out of valve 1- sometimes has a trigger. 3. goes in and out of valve 2 - very small. 4. goes in and out of valve three - normally has a...

There's a time and a place for everything. As long as your vibrato is appropriate to the music, fill your boots!
