Hi,
Has anyone played or conducted Philip Sparke's 'Three Minatures for Brass Band' or 'Jubilee Overture'?
I am looking for a test piece for the band i conduct. these are both on the sugested test piece list for the SCABBA 2nd section.
I thought I would ask for peoples views here before I get hold of recordings etc.
I am looking for a test piece that is good for the band as a whole, and doesnt hang just on the solo cornet performance.
I believe the three minatures has a flug solo? that would be good...
any thoughts on this post or privately welcomed
cheers
JP

Jubilee Overture
As a fellow SCABA second section person (OK, I'm in the opposition) I wouldn't recommend Jubilee overture.
Yes it has a certain level of difficulty, but I don't think it shows the range of playing styles in the same way as a standard 3 movement (fast slow fast) testpiece does.
Great concert item, but I'd say no as a testpiece.
