Hey everyone!
Just got back from the Area championships in Torquay. Here are some of the results.
Section 4
1. Pillowell Silver
2. Bratton Silver
3. Drybrook and District Silver
Section 2
1. Otterbourne Brass (City of Winchester)
2. Forest of Dean
3. Helston Town
Section 1
1. Bournemouth Concert Brass
2. Lanner and District Silver
3. Poole Borough, P. Randell
My band came 11/21 in section 4, we were reasonably happy with the result after not competing for a few years. Did anybody go, did you hear Verwood Band, what did you think?!
Cheers!

I don't know all of the results from today's part of the area, I have to admit I opted for staying in the bar during the results - the thought of going to listen was far too stressful!! I know St Dennis won the 3rd section and the Championship Section results are as follows
1) JAG Mount Charles
2) Camborne
3) Yeovil
4) SWT Woodfalls
5) St Austell
6) Flowers
9) Hyde
11) Bodmin
Afraid I don't know anymore than that, but I think JAG should have had the comedy award courtesy of the actions of the euphonium player - he certainly got the audience laughing, and a round of applause for his trouble (see my "Amusing Anecdotes" thread for details

As a follow up to what I previously wrote, and as a consequence of what was written in this week's British Bandsman, I feel I have to write something in defence.
Firstly, I must emphasize THESE ARE MY OPINIONS AND NOT THOSE OF THE BAND, I AM IN NO WAY REPRESENTING ANYONE OTHER THAN MYSELF AS AN INDIVIDUAL.
Simon Phillips, whoever he may be because I don't know him and neither does anyone else I have spoken to, commented that the only sour note of the day was the comments the winners were making concerning the other bands. Firstly, I find the wording of the article personally offensive, and also possibly even as far as libellous through it's careless wording.
The wording of the article suggests that the entire band was snubbing everyone else's efforts. I'm sure everyone else put in as much work as we did, and I would never EVER criticise another band simply because of their position on a particular day.
Secondly, not only did I myself not make any comments whatsoever concerning any of the other bands (except congratulating Camborne players and commenting it was a good show for Cornwall, which lets face it, it was), but I didn't hear anyone else making any comments either.
I know how band contests are, and everyone reading this is probably saying my loss of memory is alcohol induced, but it's not. I am currently on painkillers - I wasn't even meant to be playing, but god I'm glad I didn't take the doctor's note! - and therefore I didn't have a single drink - well, a small sip out of the cup barely enough to taste.
I don't know who Simon Phillips is, but he seems to have made some unfounded comments which he aimed at the band as a whole in a seeming attempt to blacken our name. Aiming them at the entire band means he aimed them at me, and I challenge him to come forward and tell me exactly what he thinks he heard from whom, because he didn't hear anything from me. I am one of the winners he was talking about. So come on Mr Phillips. Tell me what I said. I'll even sell tickets if you can find and prove something I personally said so that people can watch me eat my part of Tristan Encounters. Every last apparently swapped part of it!!
Come on Mr Phillips. I challenge you.
