It's not difficult at all, you're English, assuming you were born in Cornwall.

I come from Kent which means I could have any amount of strange DNA from gene pools (original Kent (from the Kentish Nation), Roman, Norman, Viking, Angles, Saxon, Jute, Uncle Tom Cobbly), but I was born in England so I'm English.

Mind you if I were Scottish or Welsh I'd be annoyed. I'm rather surprised that the poll said england rather than Britain.

Another amusing tip. I see, Susan, that you're from Australia. Is that why you've demoted New Zealand (one of the most important banding countries) to the wasteland that is "other"?

England is but one country that makes up Britain.

I am not, have never been, and never will be English. British I can go with, but not English. In the invasions of England as per above list, the invasions never reached Cornwall. I am a celt, not a cocktail. I am Cornish which as with Scottish and Welsh can be classed as British but not English.

Cornwall never signed over it's sovereignty to England, and as such therefore stands more separate than either Scotland or Wales to England. I stand by my Cornish Heritage, that's why on the last census every Cornish man and woman had it formally recorded that we are in fact Cornish. We have our own parliament, our own National Anthem (and yes for those of you who didn't know we have our own language) and as far as I am concerned, I find it offensive when people try to tell me otherwise. It is sheer ignorance.

It is however an important banding country. Much more important from a banding point of view than the States, I would say, though that may well change if the trend of band formation in the US continues.

Although I was raised in Cornwall, and I know its History-Tracey- but I am proud to associate myself with England and the all round Britain Label.
After all the Future king of the UK is the Duke of Cornwall. Duchys make up England.
I am proud to be English, shows the Americans something of National Pride, rather than mindless loyalty. Britain has a History and America's history is Britain.

Duke of Cornwall by title not descent - and I don't remember the Cornish being asked if we objected to that title being given to an Englishman by an Englishman, Tom. When it comes down to it, what exactly does the King of England - or in current case Queen - do other than sit on their fat backside living off us taxpayers?

As a taxpayer I object. Wish I could live in the lap of luxury "earning" my way through life going on holiday, jetting off around the world. But then, my political views are mine and I will inflict them upon you no further.

I can take being described as British, after all Cornwall is attached. But there is no way I'm ever going to describe myself as English, simply because I'm not.

I spent 3 years at University studying sociology just over the border in Plymouth, and as part of my studies I covered International Relations and Politics among other things, and every single lecturer impressed upon us how Cornwall is not a part of England - not that I needed telling. Britain yes, England no.

I have nothing against the English, don't get me wrong, but our heritages are very different, and I find your comments - Tom - an insult. I have my background, you have yours, so if you actually turn up to band on Thursday night for once, don't bother talking to me.

Tracey, People are entitled to their opinion. My opinion has absolutely nothing to do with yours and I do not understand how you find it 'insulting'.
I have not once undermined your opinion or education and you have every right to be proud of your background.
How my post is insulting you is beyond me. If you were American I would understand, but you're not. I like being associated with England, and although you may not be that should not affect me at all.

If you are to stoop to a low childish and petty response that is up to you and I thought that you were an adult and nice person.

I am upset by traosb attitude towards the royal family. The Royal family is essential to the economic structure of this country. For example HRH the Prince of Wales does alot of work for Cornwall, he attends and supports all types of things in the south west as we hear on national news.
i am a huge fan of the Queen, and for a larger overview of what she does I have copied an article from the British Monarchy's official website:

Away from the cameras, however, The Queen's work goes on. No two days are ever the same and The Queen must remain prepared throughout.

The Royal family are great tourist attractions, attracting Millions to London and the UK every year and what better ambassador is there other than the Queen of England or one of her imediate family.

I think that Hobbsy has done nothing to upset you and the NJH has a good point. You have your own pride traosb and no-one can take that away from you, but what gives you the right to say that other people'd pride of their nation is wrong?

Hmmm. Seeing as it's about time I came over again with some more music and before the end of Murray's BBQ season, I'd better keep mum!

Sorry I havn't been on for a while to defend myself, obviously people think I was a little strong in my self-defence anyway so perhaps it was a good thing. I just feel very hurt that people refuse to give Cornwall and us Cornish the recognition we deserve.
