Having just purchased one of these instruments for my son i was wondering how many tuning slides should it have.
I have been able to remove and grease 3 but when i try to remove what i think is the fourth it is stuck solid.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, presuming it's the same as any other cornet, it should have 4 movable slides.
1. goes from the mouthpiece into valve 1 (the main tuning slide).
2. goes in and out of valve 1- sometimes has a trigger.
3. goes in and out of valve 2 - very small.
4. goes in and out of valve three - normally has a trigger.
The valves are normally numbered 1,2,3 so you should be able to understand my wafflings. Which slide are you trying to move?

Thx it was just that in the odyssey cleaning instructions it appers to point to the bend after the main tuning slide which goes into valve 3 .So using your instructions main tuning slide goes into valve 1 but on mine it appears to go into valve 3 could this be correct.

Sorry, my mistake - it does go into valve three. I'm just being dim.
That 'slide' on the bend you are referring to looks like it could move, but I have never ever used it (it doesn't move on my cornet, though that may be because it's over 20 yrs old). I've never used it, and don't know anyone that has.
Generally speaking, the main tuning slide, the trigger slides on valves one & three, and loadsa practice are all that your son needs (until he becomes the next Phillip Mcann, at which point he can tell me what to do).
Lastly, if things refuse to move, try chucking wd40 or valve oil on them for a while - it helps to loosen them up.
