After six wonderful years Jonathan Beatty has
decided it is time to hand over the reigns of MD at Dinnington to someone new.
During their time together they've shared three Yorkshire area victories, and
around fifteen first and second places in various contests including consecutive
wins at Buxton and Leicester - in both fourth and third sections. Added to this
is a list of concerts playing ambitious programmes to much acclaim. The band has
a wide range of experience and age (at one point the band had a member of eight
and one of eighty) and actively encourages the development of new and young
players through its training band setup.
Beatty commented, "I have seen many players, both children and adult,
develop into some superb players. And I pay tribute to Joanne Brookes Wright,
the band manager and solo horn, for her work with the training band that has fed
players into the main band. The band has some real character and spirit and this
always came through in their playing with gritty and exciting performances. They
are a great team and always play superbly. However, I believe every conductor
(or headmaster, director etc) has a shelf life. I have had time constraints
recently, it was clear that my ambition for Dinnington to win the second section
area would have to be with someone else."
The band has recently appointed Lindon Bolt as its new musical
Director. Lindon has enjoyed 5 successful years building a solid team at Deepcar
Band where he had recently taken the decision to step down, so it seemed the
perfect solution for Dinnington to approach him. Bolt said, "I am very
excited by the opportunity to lead a band such as Dinnington. They have a great
attitude and team spirit and i look forward to what the future may bring. I hope
I can live up to the legacy left by my predecessor!" Beatty added,
"In Lindon they have found a committed, loyal and talented conductor to
take them forward - and a thoroughly nice chap. I would say to him
that he has found a great band to help him
make his mark as a conductor in the second section. I still feel a part of
Dinnington and the band and members are close to my heart. I will see them
regularly and look forward to their performance in Bradford."
