If they were I wouldn't be complaining... Things work differently down here to up North, I seem to have noticed, so I shall explain. We wear our own walking out uniforms when helping another band and use only the other band's stage uniform whereas up North it would appear from observations that both...

Can Bandsmen (and women) Still Help?
I don't want loads of young people protesting as I'm hopeful that what I'm about to describe is no more than a rare occurrence (lets face it, if something's gonna happen it always happens to me), and I'm sure that many young people wouldn't dream of behaving in such a thoughtless manner. I know cont...

I played a yamaha very briefly at the end of the 80s/early 90s (approx) and it lasted less than 6 weeks before I packed it in - I'm surprised Tom's managed this long with his. The only real problem I've found with the more recent Sovereigns has been the valves - I had one of the first of the last mo...

Duke of Cornwall by title not descent - and I don't remember the Cornish being asked if we objected to that title being given to an Englishman by an Englishman, Tom. When it comes down to it, what exactly does the King of England - or in current case Queen - do other than sit on their fat backside l...

I am not, have never been, and never will be English. British I can go with, but not English. In the invasions of England as per above list, the invasions never reached Cornwall. I am a celt, not a cocktail. I am Cornish which as with Scottish and Welsh can be classed as British but not English. Cor...

we also have a couple at the Sterts Centre at Liskeard sometime between now and Minack so I'll look up the dates. I was in primary school last time I went to the Sterts Centre but if I remember rightly it seemed at the time like a hole in the ground in the middle of Bodmin Moor. It was cold so wrap ...

I missed it, but I believe it wasn't exactly highlighting any of our achievements. I guess any publicity is good publicity though. They could have at least mentioned the druid festival we played for in the middle of the night at a deserted mine to celebrate the eclipse. Much more interesting. Don't ...

I disagree that in the UK there ARE very few female players. A lot of the lower section bands in the South West area for example are largely made up of women, and when I joined Mount Charles it was pretty much an even split between males and females. There seems to be less female players in the Nort...

I saw someone do that on parade once... It wasn't a member of the band, but it was a remembrance service and one of the soldiers just went. You're meant to wriggle your toes or something, aren't you? I remember once with Lostwithiel Brass 88 (who haven't existed for some time now) we did Fowey carni...
