Boosey and Hawkes for sale
Boosey and Hawkes for sale
I read that Boosey & Hawkes is up for sale. If you want a slice of the
action to own the company and stamp your personality on the next line
of Sovereigns, you should know that the asking price is £80M (the
current owners paid just £40M for it two years ago).

Re: Boosey and Hawkes for sale
These days they are separate companies.
To be truthful it is the music publisher not the instrument manufacturer which is up for sale, but I didn't want the facts to spoil a good line...

Ooops. I hit 'edit' instead of 'quote' so your original post was lost. Sorry about that. I should have double checked the 'preview'.WorldofBrass.com wrote:These days they are separate companies.

How can someone change what I typed?

interesting. b&h instruments arnt all that bad besson valves stick a bit, but they are both pretty good brands. since besson moved to india, i wonder if their instrument quality will drop a bit? i am buying a trumpet soon, and have thourght about betting a besson sovergine, but the fact that they are in india have held me back a bit.

!!!!!!
A SOVERGINE!!!!!!!
generally, sovergins are really good. our band recently recieved 8 cornets, one sop, and a flugle from besson. the sop and most of the cornets have just now stoped with the "metalic ring" sound to it. once thats gone, they actually have a really nice tone to it.

Sorry to be 'picky' about spellings, but I am afraid it is spelt SOVEREIGN.
The way that you have spelt it would be pronounced so-va-jeen or so-va-geen.
I have played a Sovereign Soprano Cornet a few years back and the valves were great, however, I had worn them in.
I have also played a Besson Prestige Cornet and the valves were terrible. I think that you need to 'break in' your instrument and then play it how you want to. The instrument needs to wear in the valves due to how you hold the instrument.
