Conductors' Competition

Post by njh »

Following the success of previous events, the National Association of Brass Band Conductors is planning another conductors’ competition. As in previous years, it will take the form of a series of heats and a final, the winner of which will receive a prize of £1000, a trophy, and the title ‘NABBC Conductor of 2008’. £500 will be awarded to the second prize and £200 to the third prize.

There will be six qualifying heats held during the period from February to April 2008; the final will be held on 21st June. Winners of the heats will each receive £100.

The competition is open to anyone aged 25 or over who is not a professional level conductor.

During each round the contestant will need to study three sections of well know brass band scores, on the day of the competition the contestant will be asked to rehearse the band for around 25 minutes on one of the pieces.

The bands during the heats will be of at least first section standard, and we are pleased to announce that the finalists will be rehearsing the world famous Virtuosi GUS Band.

The competition will be held in association with Virtuosi.

Oops. A mental block, the age limit is 21 not 25. Sorry about the confusion.

To all budding and established conductors: it's not too late yet to enter yourself for next
year's conducting competition (or if you're a player, to tell your conductor to enter),
with the chance to win up to £1000. The closing date is 4/1/08, and is open to anyone of 21 or above,
who is not a conductor of a top section band.

See http://www.nabbc.org.uk/competition2008.htm for all the details and an application form.
