Many years ago I heard a recording by Black Dyke Mills of Maurice Murphy playing a cornet solo called Will'o the wisp. It is probably the finest cornet playing ever heard by a brass band. The piece was composed and conducted by Major Willcocks. The rumour at the time was the piece was locked up in the Black Dyke library as no future top man would ever be able to emulate the sound and style of probably the finest cornet player we have ever produced. I just wondered if anybody knows where I could purchase a copy of this remarkable recording.

Contact Keith Quinn on 0191 520 2948 for a copy.

I know Fairey recorded it on their Berlioz CD with Peter Parkes, so maybe it's not locked up after all ?
