Discussion of playing techniques. What do you think of different instruments and accessories?

King vs Courtois

Post by ayrton1987 »

Hi, I belong to the Guernsey Concert Brass brand in Guernsey, and I am looking into buying a new trombone.

I currently own a King 304 (or similar), but i was looking into buying an Antoine Courtois Trombone.

Is there any difference, and what would the differences be.
The reason I am changing, is when an x-member of our band owned an Eb Tenor Horn (Courtois), i had a go on it, and i couldnt believe the tone i got with it. Would that be the same case with the Trombone or not?

I am currently using a Denis Wick 4AL Mouthpiece, and the standard King mouthpiece i got with the trombone.

Also, which Courtois Trombone would be the most similer to my King, and the price?

Thanks for your help. :-)

Basically, i was wondering how much different the courtois would be compared to the king

I find with my king, is that it is alright mid range f-c in stave, but anything else is either hard to tune, or just hard to get the right emphasis on each note. - plus, i find that it is making a rattleing noise on my trom, or its all 'fuzzy, and hard to get a nice clean round note.
