MINACK THEATRE, SATURDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER
MINACK THEATRE, SATURDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER
For those of you here in Cornwall, the Mount Charles Band are doing a Last Night of the Proms Concert at the Minack Theatre on Saturday 25th September. Tickets are priced at £7.50 and are available from the booking office at the Minack. There is a £1 booking fee (a standard fee per booking, not per ticket), but tickets have been on sale for a couple weeks now and are apparently getting down in numbers, so booking would be advisable. The gates open at 6:30pm and the concert is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm.
For those of you who were unlucky enough to get tickets, the band have been booked for a repeat performance next year on September the 24th. The evening was a great success complete with all the pops and bangs as have become usual for a Last Night of the Proms with Mount Charles Band - including the legendary Mount Charles Lancaster fly-over to begin Dambusters (it wouldn't be a Mount Charles Proms night without it!). It was amusing in rehearsal to see the staff busy setting the theatre looking around for the plane, seeming quite concerned at how low it sounded...
Anyway, greetings to those from Surrey and Brighton who made the trip all the way down here for the concert, we hope to see you again next year. And of course everyone else who was there. If support for this event continues the way it has started, I can forsee a long future of it as an annual event. Apparently there are some good photos of this year's concert on the Minack Theatre website.
For those who would like to see the band performing the Last Night of the Proms before then, the last night of Fowey Regatta week we play a LNotP on the Quay, and we have also been doing a LNotP in Charlestown one Saturday in early August for the last couple of years. Dates for next year are as yet unconfirmed.

For those who weren't on the ball and bought tickets for Saturday 24th... You're too late. Sold out. The Minack have contacted the band and we have agreed to also play the Last Night of the Proms on the Friday night (23rd). The tickets will be going on sale in a couple of weeks - April.

Look forward to seeing lots of people there - it is an outdoor venue and literally is set in the side of a cliff, so dress up nice and warm. Don't forget your flags, and we look forward to hearing the gentleman with the airhorn in the 3rd row, 7th from left, 4th from centre who deafened our trombones and euphoniums last year!!!
Also, has anyone heard anything of the fisherman who was on the rocks before all the maroons (canon fire) and fireworks started last September... He wasn't still there when we left... I'm hoping he was gone because he left because we scared the fish away, not for any other reason such as stray explosives...
