Holton Trombones

Post by gcb_trombone »

Hi.
I currently play a King 4b Tenor Trombone, and I am having trouble getting a nice tone above 'D' in the stave. It comes out all strained. I have 2 mouthpieces - Denis Wick 4al and a King one which came with the trombone - not sure what model the moutpiece is.
I have been told to look into a holton trombone.
What do you think of them?
I'm not a pro player, but i have been playing for 10 years.
Im in a sticky situation because I sometimes help out playing bass trombone in another band, and I use my mates Yamaha YSL-448 (or whatever it is) I love it because It holds the sound so much better than a tenor. but as i play solo trombone in another band, i tend to get a few high notes. so I can;t really compramise between a bass trom and a tenor. so I have been thinking about a Bb/F trombone (single trigger) but is there a good trombone for both high and low notes, and a rich tone and a sharp tone with decent clarity?
I was looking at a Holton Charisma 555F. what would you suggest?
Sorry if this is confusing.....
