My company, NJH Music, has been approached to research the original bandstand from the Ascot Race Course's Silver Ring that stood there from 1929.
Those of you in the UK will no doubt know that the racecourse has undergone refurbishment recently. Not unsurprisingly, in the current climate where bands appear bottom on the list of requirements, the bandstand will not be renovated or replaced.
The company selling the bandstand would like to know anything that they can about it, the racecourse people having no access to the archives during the renovation.
I suspect that it has never been used by brass bands, only concert bands and other groups (i.e. seen photos of jazz bands on it), but in case I'm wrong if anyone can shed any light on the past of the stand I'd be interested and will pass the details on to them.
